ACTING
I started to appear in my own films for one very simple reason ... I'm cheap! Although, not only does it save a wage, it also saves on the lengthy process of auditioning other actresses and directing them in the roles. It was suggested by other cast members at Planet Rabbit as far back as 2011 that I should take a role in the plays, but keen to remain backstage this didn't happen until we filmed A Little in Tents in 2017.
Back in the 1980s when I was a teenager I did do some tv supporting artist work and acted in corporate videos, but this was purely for money to buy cider and LPs, not to fulfil a burning ambition. Then, while at RADA, my stage management duties on one show required me to dress as a 1920s parlour maid to pour tea and use a dustpan & brush on stage. Later in my stage management career I was required to be the voice of the Mirror on the Wall in Snow White for an entire panto run with Timmy Mallet, which I enjoyed, although the director did ask if I could be "less northern". Over the years I was regularly asked if I could prepare to stand in for panto fairies and so on and one panto season I was to abandon my stage management duties for 10 minutes every show to appear as the ghost in the ghost gag for the entire run of Babes in the Wood with Little & Large. And that pretty much sums up my acting career, until now.
